Looking back at Indonesia’s journey and ahead to greater Asia Pacific collaboration
The 13th Annual Scientific Meeting of InaHRS 2026 officially commenced on 14 August 2026, following a series of workshops held the previous day. The program opened with the national anthem, “Indonesia Raya,” followed by remarks from Benny Mulyanto Setiadi, MD, Chairman of The 13th ASM InaHRS; Erika Maharani, MD, President of InaHRS; Ade Meidian Ambari, MD, PhD, President of IHA; and Prof. Wei Hua, MD, PhD, President of APHRS.
The opening ceremony featured a symbolic drum roll performed by Prof. Wei Hua, MD, PhD; Erika Maharani, MD; Rina Ariani, MD; and Benny M. Setiadi, MD, before all participants joined in unison, marking the official beginning of the scientific meeting.
The ceremony was followed by a plenary lecture moderated by Dicky A. Hanafi, MD, PhD, and Erika Maharani, MD. The first presentation, delivered by Muhammad Munawar, MD, PhD, explored the development of electrophysiology in Indonesia. He reflected on how the field was built progressively through the contributions of mentors, colleagues, institutions, and patients. The first pacemaker implantation in 1974 marked an important milestone, followed by decades of gradual advancement in arrhythmia care and research. He emphasized that progress requires pioneers willing to persevere despite uncertainty: “To get to where we are today, someone had to blaze the trail.”
The plenary continued with Prof. Wei Hua, MD, PhD, who introduced fellowship and collaborative opportunities in electrophysiology across the Asia-Pacific region. His presentation covered grant structures, eligibility requirements, host-country and proctor matching, and other practical aspects of international training and collaboration.
The practical and up-to-date information generated strong interest among participants, particularly those seeking opportunities for further training, research, and collaboration in electrophysiology.
